2 From Redwood City Killed In Lake Tahoe Boating Tragedy

The two were among eight people who died after a boat capsized on the lake. Their son was also killed.

EL DORADO COUNTY, CA — The eight people who died after a boat capsized Saturday on Lake Tahoe were identified Tuesday. Among the dead are four family members, including two people from Redwood City and their son, a San Francisco tech executive.

Ten people went into the water amid 8-foot waves and 30-knot winds that afternoon when the 27-foot Chris-Craft vessel overturned near D.L. Bliss State Park, authorities have said. Two were rescued and taken to a hospital, and the bodies of six people were recovered Saturday, while the seventh body was recovered Sunday evening and the eighth was discovered Monday afternoon.

  • Joshua Antony Pickles, 37, of San Francisco;
  • Paula Bozinovich, 71, of Redwood City;
  • Terry Pickles, 73, of Redwood City;
  • Peter Bayes, 72, of Lincoln;
  • Timothy O’Leary, 71, of Auburn;
  • Theresa Giullari, 66, of Honeoye, New York;
  • James Guck, 69, of Honeoye, New York;
  • Stephen Lindsay, 63, of Springwater, New York.

Terry Pickles and Paula Bozinovich were the parents of Joshua Pickles, and Peter Bayes was his uncle, according to a family statement, which said all four died Saturday. Joshua Pickles was a senior director at DoorDash, overseeing global strategic sourcing and procurement, according to his LinkedIn page.

"No words can express the pain and anguish we feel knowing their lives were lost during what was meant to be a joyful time on the lake," Joshua Pickles' widow, Jordan Sugar-Carlsgaard, said in the statement Tuesday. "Our hearts go out to those who tragically lost their lives and the two survivors of this unexpected and deadly storm on Lake Tahoe.”
