3 Arrests, 43 Citations Handed Out At SMC DUI Checkpoint: Police

Over 700 drivers were screened at a recent DUI checkpoint, police said.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Police said they arrested one person for a DUI and two others for being drunk in public Saturday and Sunday in Redwood City at a checkpoint.

The Redwood City Police Department setup DUI checkpoints from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at El Camino Real near Carlos Street and from 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Woodside Road and Bay Road.

Police said they cited 37 people for driving unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license. Officers said that out of the 700 drivers they contacted or screened that eight of them were evaluated for a DUI.

"DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of the DUI checkpoint is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads," police said.
