31-Year-Old Woman Dies In Custody At Bay Area Correctional Center: Police
The coroner's office is attempting to determine the cause of death.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — Sheriff's deputies administered lifesaving measures on a 31-year-old woman experiencing a medical emergency early Monday morning at a San Mateo County Correctional Facility.
At around 6 a.m. on Monday, San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies at the Maple Street Correctional Center said they responded to a 31-year-old woman who was incarcerated and experiencing a medical emergency in a housing unit.
Sheriff's deputies said they administered lifesaving measures but the woman was ultimately pronounced dead at the center by paramedics, police said.

"We understand the concerns and questions that may arise from any in-custody death. While the independent investigations are ongoing, we want to assure the community that once the investigations are complete, the Sheriff’s Office will make the findings public on its website," police said
The Coroner’s Office will make next of kin notifications and then release their identify. The Coroner's office is also determining the cause of death.

The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau are conducting independent investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
