Free First Friday

Mark your calendars for a delightful day of exploration and creativity at the San Mateo County History Museum’s “FREE First Fridays” on January 2, 2026. Immerse yourself in history and enjoy complimentary admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. plus special programs for children and adults.

Start the day with a special program for preschoolers at 11 a.m., where little ones can join Museum staff to discover California's beloved symbol, the bear! Kids will get hands-on with an engaging craft, creating their very own paper puppet bears. After the craft, they’ll embark on an exciting exploration of the historic rotunda and Courtroom A while enjoying the captivating story, “What the Grizzly Knows.”

For adults, the learning continues at 2 p.m. with guided tours led by our knowledgeable docents. Dive deep into the rich tapestry of history that the museum offers, featuring exhibits that highlight everything from the use of natural resources to diverse ethnic experiences on the Peninsula.

Situated in the stunning 116-year-old "Old Courthouse" at 2200 Broadway in Redwood City, the San Mateo County History Museum is a treasure trove of stories from the past. With the support of Monterra Credit Union, this enriching day is completely free, making it the perfect opportunity for families and history enthusiasts alike.
