Caltrain Hits, Kills Person On Tracks At Main Street Crossing

The fatal crash occurred at 3:59 p.m. when a person was struck by the train at the busy crossing in Redwood City.

REDWOOD CITY, CA -- Caltrain in both south- and northbound directions were delayed by at least 30 minutes Wednesday afternoon following a fatal crash involving a person on the tracks struck by a train traveling from San Francisco to Gilroy.

The fatal crash occurred at 3:59 p.m. at the Main St. crossing in Redwood, San Mateo County Sheriff's Transit and Redwood City police forces confirm. Emergency personnel then the San Mateo County Coroner responded to the scene.

No injuries have been reported out of the 450 passengers onboard the train. This is Caltrain’s 11th fatality of 2018. The matter is under investigation, but in an initial assessment, it is believed "to have been an intentional act." The final determination will be made by the coroner.

The crash impacted vehicle traffic between Elm Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The authorities kept the southbound train No. 258 and northbound train No. 159 at bay in Menlo Park, according to 511.org. Both directions are now open and on schedule.
