New Doctor's Office Opens Claiming To Offer More Personalized Healthcare In Redwood City
The doctor said her new practice will provide more attentiveness and time for each individual patient.
REDWOOD CITY, CA. — Peninsula residents have a new option as a new doctor launched a membership-based internal medicine practice in Redwood City on Dec. 8, and said her new approach focuses on prevention, early detection and building lasting relationships with patients across San Mateo County.
Dr. Marie Denise Kan specializes in internal medicine with a focus on cardiovascular health, nutrition, integrative medicine, geriatrics, and women's health, particularly care around perimenopause and menopause.
The move to MDVIP was driven by Dr. Kan’s desire to practice medicine with more attentiveness and time for each individual.

“At my previous practice, I was managing over 2,000 patients, which made it incredibly difficult to give the quality of care I wanted to give and also presented a frustrating situation for the patients,” Dr. Kan told Patch. “We see this issue not only here but across the US: physician burnout, long wait times, and it all leads to a lack of personalized care because the system currently isn’t set up to support that. Traditional healthcare is about getting in and out as quickly as possible, so you can treat as many patients as possible.”
Dr. Kan said she will offer a comprehensive wellness program, same/next-day appointments, and longer, unhurried patient visits — allowing her to act as a true health advocate.

Dr. Kan, a longtime resident with deep roots in the community, is excited to bring this model to the area. She noted that her patients are often already proactive about their health.
“Redwood City, much like the rest of the Peninsula, is so proactive about its health,” Dr. Kan told Patch. “You can see it in the average lifestyle, the fresh farmers markets we have, the abundance of workout and fitness options, wellness opportunities, hiking trails, and so much more. It's amazing to be a part of it all.”
Dr. Kan earned her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley.
Her practice is currently accepting patients from areas including Atherton, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Mountain View, Portola Valley, Burlingame, Hillsborough, Foster City, San Mateo, Half Moon Bay, Belmont, San Carlos, Redwood City, and Woodside.
MDVIP, a Boca Raton-based company founded in 2000, runs a network of physicians offering preventive and primary care via annual patient subscriptions. Physicians pay a royalty fee.
