City Says Crossing 900 Making Good Progress

Three web cams have been set up for residents to track the progress of the construction project

Construction on Crossing 900, the largest development since the completion of the Theatre Way project, began in October.

Located on Middlefield Road, adjacent to the Redwood City Caltrain station, and across from the Theatre Way retail/cinema complex, Crossing 900 is a key component of the vision contained in the Downtown Precise Plan according to city officials.

Below are some various project highlights of Crossing 900. City officials say construction continues and is making good progress. Here are some recent highlights provided by the City of Redwood City:

 Construction

  • The contractor continued to drive test piles this week in preparation for the installation of shoring (supporting posts or beams). Shoring will begin at the upper corner near Caltrain platform and continue to the Jefferson side where a new cut-off/retaining wall will be constructed.
  • Moderate excavation continues with mass excavation and off-hauling of dirt continuing through the end of the calendar year and estimated to conclude in the early part of the New Year.
  • Dewatering equipment will be placed at the corner nearest Caltrain platform and remain in place for approximately a year.  Foundations for two tower cranes will be constructed and the cranes placed prior to the end of December.

Traffic Control

  • Traffic control with two-way traffic is in place and reviewed on a daily basis. The city will continue to change as necessary to ensure safe site conditions, as well as pedestrian and vehicle safety.

Web Resources

  • To see progress, please go online and use the three web cams to track how work is coming along.

Miscellaneous

  • Permit parking plan is being finalized.
  • Thanks to businesses for keeping us apprised of big events (Hometown Holidays, Silicon Valley Ball, block buster movies every weekend, etc.). If there is a need for traffic control, we can coordinate with the Police Department.  It is important that event planners inform us of big events and participate in traffic planning, so that we can address the issue.
  • The parking ambassador program is a hit, and slowly, more folks are using the limo-style shuttle, especially on  Friday nights although average ridership is approximately 19 per evening. We will continue these pilot programs until the end of December at which time, we will need to make a determination if there are resources to continue these services and if the demand warrants continuation.

Any immediate questions or concerns, please let us know. Anything specific to construction, contact Dolores Montenegro. Otherwise, contact Bill Ekern, Community Development Director.

The city will continue to update residents as they learn of new details. To access some the latest resources on this project, please visit the Crossing 900 project page and scroll to "More Information."
