Elderly RWC Man Died of Natural Causes, Not Exposure to Cold

According to an article in Thursday's San Jose Mercury News, 69-year-old death of a Redwood City man was not due to the area's below-average temperatures that claimed the lives of four men in the South Bay last week.

An autopsy revealed that Carlos Francisco Del Valle-Jonda died of natural causes. 

Del Valle-Jonda's body was discovered inside his mobile home parked in the 900 block of Charter Street last Friday morning, according to Redwood City Police Lt. Sean Hart.

Police ruled out foul play, but the San Mateo County coroner officials said that they could not overlook the possibility that Del Valle-Jonda died from exposure to the cold. Overnight temperatures the night before he died were in the 30s. 

An autopsy revealed Del Valle-Jonda suffered from a medical episode, said SMC Coroner Robert Foucrault on Wednesday. Authorities do not yet know how long the man had been in the trailer before being discovered last Friday. 

According to the Merc article, three of the four  men who died last week in Santa Clara County were homeless, and the fourth died in a Saratoga garage that was insulated in a similar way to Del Valle-Jonda's trailer in Redwood City.

There have been no reported deaths in San Mateo County due to the cold snap.
