Fatal Stabbing At Bay Area Caltrain Station Ends With Suspect's Arrest: Police

The victim had been transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Officers arrested a man Thursday who stabbed someone at a Caltrain station in Redwood City, hospitalizing the victim with serious injuries —which they later died from, police said.

Around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies were called to a reported stabbing on the platform of the Caltrain Redwood City station. Authorities discovered an adult man with serious stab wounds, who was then taken to a nearby trauma center.

Police learned at 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday, that the victim had died at the hospital.

“We extend our thoughts and deepest condolences to the loved ones of the deceased,” said Sheriff Christina Corpus. “I am grateful to all Sheriff’s Office personnel who acted swiftly to safely apprehend the suspect to bring him to justice. This is another example of the excellent work of our highly trained personnel and their commitment in keeping our community members safe.”

Police said they identified the suspect as a 31-year-old Jose Gomez Bustamante from Redwood City and worked throughout the night to locate him.

At around 11 a.m. on Thursday, officers found Gomez Bustamante on the 2600 block of El Camino Real, arrested and booked him into the Maguire Correctional Facility for homicide, police said.
