Highway 101 Express Lanes Open In San Mateo County
Tolls are determined by "dynamic pricing," and fluctuate based on traffic levels on the highway.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — New express lanes on U.S. Highway 101 stretching from Whipple Avenue in Redwood City to the Santa Clara County line opened on last Friday.
Vehicles will need a FasTrak pass to use the lanes. Three-person carpools, buses and motorcycles can use the lane for free with a FasTrak tag, two-person carpools will receive a 50 percent toll discount and solo drivers will have to pay full tolls.

On Friday, with moderate traffic in Redwood City, the toll was $1.70.
The express lanes will operate from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays.

The express-lane project will continue, with lanes being extended to the northern end, up from Whipple Avenue to Interstate Highway 380. The lanes lead directly into express lanes in Santa Clara County.
