Large Sinkhole Shutters Highway 92 In Both Directions

Drivers should take alternate routes. There is no estimate for when the road will reopen.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A large sinkhole formed early Thursday morning on state Highway 92 in San Mateo County just west of the intersection of upper state Highway 35.

Highway 92 is closed in both directions from upper Highway 35 to Pilarcitos Creek Road.

Drivers should take alternate routes. There is no estimate for when the road will reopen.

The westbound lane was closed Wednesday after a dip in the road was discovered, and one-way traffic controls had allowed vehicles to pass for several hours until the sinkhole developed and caused the road to again close at 3 a.m. Thursday.
