Historic Union Cemetery In Redwood City Closed During Weekdays

The cemetery is still open to visitors on weekends, but work is being done to remove dead or dying tree branches.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Work began last week at the Historic Union Cemetery in Redwood City to remove dead or dying tree branches following a recent arborist assessment.

The cemetery, which is part of the city’s park system, will be closed Monday through Friday but will be open to visitors on weekends.

The work is expected to take place in phases over the next couple of months.

A Coast Live Oak tree that is over 400 years old was removed, and additional measures to address the health and preservation of the Valley Oak trees are being taken.

One commenter on Facebook posted: "Oh I loved that amazing old tree! So sad to see it go. It was spectacular."
