REDWOOD CITY, CA -- A 40-year-old San Mateo man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and child cruelty outside Redwood City Monday night, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department reported.

Sheriff’s deputies responded at 6:45 p.m. to the 300 block of 4th Avenue in unincorporated Redwood City on the report of a disturbance and blood located in the lobby of an apartment complex.

Deputies learned the two victims were approached by Marco Antonio Ayapanjocop, who was armed with a machete. Ayapanjocop raised the machete and threatened the victims as he swung the machete multiple times in their direction, the sheriff's unit indicated. Neither victim was struck with the machete when he was swinging it, but the male victim sustained a minor non-life-threatening injury to his arm when he reached for the machete to disarm the suspect. A 7-year-old child was with the victims during the assault.
