Three people are dead in a traffic collision on northbound Interstate Highway 280 in unincorporated San Mateo County near Redwood City this afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
As many as two vehicles may be involved in the fatal crash on Highway 280 just north of Edgewood Road that was reported at 3:11 p.m., CHP Officer James Evans said.

Two other people were injured in the crash, Evans said.
San Mateo County officials report that one lane - the far right lane - on Edgewood Road is now open. However, delays are expected for at least the next 3 to 4 hours.
Officials said they hope to have the remaining closed lanes open by 7 p.m.
CHP and County officials advise finding alternate routes through the area.
