Man Accused Of Selling Stolen Rental Car In Redwood City

The man, from Texas, was arrested on suspicion of forging documents to sell a stolen rental car for $31,000.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A Texas man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of selling a stolen rental car in Redwood City and attempting to sell another online.

Robert Simons, 51, from Deer Park, Texas, was accused of forging a South Carolina driver’s license along with documents for the vehicle to the victim, who purchased a 2021 GMC Denali in Redwood City from Simons for $31,000.

The San Mateo County Vehicle Theft Task Force, which began investigating Simons on Tuesday, determined that he had plans to sell another stolen rental car, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Simons was arrested in San Jose on Wednesday in possession of the second stolen rental car, the sheriff’s office said.
