Man Threatens Mom With Hammer, Damages Property In Bay Area City: Police
Officers responded a reported disturbance between an adult son and his elderly mother, police said.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — Police arrested a 36-year-old man Thursday after he armed himself with a hammer, threatened his 66-year-old mother and then damaged her car and other property, police said.
Police arrested Juan Carlos CamposBerrios, 36, of Redwood City, he was booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse and felony vandalism, police said.
On Wednesday, police said they responded to a 9-1-1 call about a family disturbance between an adult son and his elderly mother at a home on Hoover Street.

Police said when they arrived at the home they learned CamposBerrios had armed himself with a hammer and threatened his mother.
CamposBerrios also vandalized his mother’s car, and destroyed items in the kitchen, resulting in thousands of dollars in damage, police said.

Officers learned CamposBerrios had fled the home before they arrived, police said.
At around 4:16 p.m. Thursday, police said family members of CamposBerrios reported he had returned home. Officers said they responded, established a perimeter and sent out an alert for neighbors to shelter in place.
Police said they believed he was hiding in a detached garage and after he refused to leave, they sent in a drone to confirm CamposBerrios was inside. After another brief period of negotiations, CamposBerrios left the garage and was taken into custody, police said.
No injuries were reported, police said.
