Michelin-Rated Bay Area Resort To Abruptly Close: Report

The sudden closure raises questions weeks after the operating permit was renewed, leaving the future of the upscale property uncertain.

WOODSIDE, CA — Canyon Ranch Woodside, a Michelin-rated luxury wellness resort in the Bay Area, will close Oct. 26 at the owner's request only weeks after officials approved a seven-year operating permit, raising questions about the sudden closure, according to a report by the San Francisco Chronicle

Canyon Ranch is closing its Woodside location, a smaller retreat than its top-rated Arizona and Massachusetts resorts. A new Austin resort opens next year. Guests can rebook or get refunds. Staff are being transitioned. The future of the 16-acre Woodside property, bought by Crescent Real Estate for $23 million in 2019, is uncertain, the SF Chronicle reported.

Crescent Real Estate has not commented.

“Our focus right now is on our guests, our people, and a smooth transition as operations wind-down,” Canyon Ranch’s website said. They added that they do not know what will happen to the property and it is not for them to determine.

The retreat center features a nearly 24,000-square-foot lodge with guest rooms, an indoor pool, and a spa. It also includes a dozen luxury "treehouses" with redwood views and private decks, according to the website. A dining space offers healthy, locally sourced meals, and a resort bar serves various beverages.
