Nearly 700 Ideas Submitted For How Redwood City Should Spend $1M
Redwood City is participating for the first time in The People's Budget, where community members will decide how the city spends $1 million.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Nearly 700 ideas have been submitted for how Redwood City should spend $1 million to improve or support the local community, according to the city.
Redwood City is participating for the first time in The People's Budget, a budgetary process in which community members directly decide how the city spends parts of its public budget to support, grow or improve the Redwood City and North Fair Oaks.
The city conducted outreach to over 3,600 community members on submitting ideas. Some of the ideas included “piloting a basic income program, implementing Safe Routes to School, supporting unhoused community members, increasing unarmed parking enforcement, building an arcade and even starting a world-class lion dance team in Redwood City,” according to Redwood City.

Over 7,000 cities around the world have participated in a similar process. Examples of how other cities spent their money include building a community garden or playground, beautifying the neighborhood, providing laptops for students and making road improvements.

The city will hold a virtual event on Wednesday from 6 p.m. - 7:15 p.m., where community members can discuss the project.
