Over $150K In Items Stolen From Bay Area Rug Store: Police

Police said they arrested two suspects in the days following the burglary.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Police said they arrested two suspects as of Wednesday, stemming from a rug store burglary in Redwood City that resulted in six figures worth of merchandise stolen, police said.

On June 1, at least three people were seen on security footage stealing items from the Medallion Rug Store in Redwood City, police said.

Redwood City Police Department officers said they recognized two of the suspects as Faustino Dennis Ayala, 40, and Scott William Llewellyn, 32.

On Tuesday, police said they arrested Ayala at a local encampment for people who are currently unhoused.

On Wednesday, officers said they found Llewellyn and arrested him.

Both were booked into the San Mateo Correctional Facility and charged with commercial burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, theft with prior convictions for theft, and there was an enhancement for property loss over $65,000, police said.

Police said when they arrested Ayala, they recovered some of the stolen property, but in total the business had around $150,000 to $200,000 in merchandise taken.

This is an ongoing investigation as police look for further suspects, police said.
