Pedestrian Killed By Caltrain In Redwood City

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A southbound train fatally struck a person Tuesday morning on the tracks just south of the Redwood City station, according to Caltrain.

Officials said a person was on the tracks for an unknown reason when a train carrying 174 passengers struck the victim near Chestnut Street. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and declared the person dead shortly after 9 a.m.

Trains were halted in the area while the coroner responded to the scene, and the tracks reopened a few minutes after 10 a.m.

The Transit Police Bureau will investigate the collision, saying Tuesday it was too early to determine the cause. The victim's identity will be released by the San Mateo County Coroner.
