Peninsula City To Hold Gun Buyback Event

The Dec. 3 event is presented by Citizens for a San Mateo County Gun Buyback.

SAN CARLOS, CA — A Peninsula city will hold a gun buyback event next month.

The city of San Carlos is holding the event, which is presented by Citizens for a San Mateo County Gun Buyback.

San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos G. Bolanos, Redwood City Police Chief Dan Mulholland and Belmont Police Chief Ken Stenquist are backing the program.

The anonymous gun buyback will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 3 at 1000 Skyway Road.

Those who turn in assault rifles or unserialized "ghost" guns are eligible to receive up to $200. Those who turn in nonfunctioning firearms are eligible to receive up to $50, and $100 for functioning firearms.

Participants must transport their firearms to the event unloaded and in their trunks.

“This event aims to promote safety and security in the County of San Mateo by providing an opportunity to responsibly, confidentially, and safely dispose of unwanted firearms (while also getting a reward in return!)” the Sheriff’s Office said on the agency’s Facebook page.
