Philanthropists Tee Off at Golf & Country Club (PHOTOS)
Friends for Youth in Redwood City hosted an event in Menlo Park that to raise funds for an organization that connects at-risk youths with mentors. Here are some photos from the event.
The 25th Annual Peninsula Golf Challenge was held at Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club in Menlo Park.
The featured speaker of the evening was former Friends for Youth mentee Jeff Day.
Jeff was matched with his mentor Bob in the Friends for Youth program when he was about ten years old. At the time Jeff’s father was incarcerated and his family was struggling. Jeff and Bob spent time together weekly, playing golf, going to the gym, and exploring. Jeff says that Bob taught him some important, basic things, “like how to shake hands with a man and look him in the eye.” Now Jeff is a graduate student at NDNU in Belmont.
The event is a major source of financial support for the Friends for Youth organization, which has been matching at-risk youth with positive adult role models since 1979.
