Phone Scam Prompts Peninsula Police Advisory
The Foster City Police Department issued the advisory Monday.
FOSTER CITY, CA — Multiple reports of a phone scam in the Peninsula with the callers falsely identifying themselves to be law enforcement officials has prompted an advisory.
The Foster City Police Department issued the advisory Monday.
“Officers have received reports from community members who stated that the callers contact them claiming to be members of the police department,” the agency said.

The scammers typically follow the following pattern:
- Refer to resident by their name
- Advise the resident the call is being recorded
- Tell the resident they have a warrant for a missed court appearance
- Advises the resident they need to send money to avoid being arrested
Residents who receive a similar call are urged to immediately hang up without providing any personal information and contact their local law enforcement agency, police said.
