Photo: Mexican Author Brings Roots to Redwood City

Israel Contreras Cervantes will be presenting his book "Aguililla, sus Hombres y su Historia" at McKinley Auditorium.

Get ready for a cultural experience as Mexican author Israel Contreras Cervantes presents his novel “Aguililla, sus Hombres y su Historia” tonight at 7 p.m. at the followed by an enlightening discussion in Spanish.

Cervantes was born in Aguililla, Mexico, and still has deep ties to his hometown, the inspiration for his book. The Latino Community Council of Redwood City is hosting the event in collaboration with the group “Unidos por Aguililla.”

Mayor Alicia Aguirre, Mi Pueblo Supermarkets CEO Juvenal Chavez and two others will be sitting on a comment panel.

After graduating from high school in Aguililla, Cervantes started his Law studies in the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo and then transferred to the prestigious Universidad Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) for a year. He is now 2 months away from graduating as an attorney.

Since 2011 he has worked as an Administrative Official in the Cultural Centers from the Supreme Court of Justice in Mexico City.

Beginning July 5th, he will undertake a historical research project on “The Fundamental Human Rights in the 1978 Spain Constitution.”
