Police Ask San Mateo County Locals To Drive Safe Ahead Of Labor Day Celebrations

One person died every 42 minutes from a drunk driving crash in 2023, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — As the summer comes to an end and Labor Day celebrations approach, the Redwood City Police Department is asking locals to drive safe.

“We want everyone to enjoy their end-of-summer travels and Labor Day festivities, but it’s important to do so responsibly,” said Kristina Bell, RCPD chief of police. “Driving under the influence not only puts your life at risk but also endangers everyone else on the road. Our goal is to reduce preventable crashes and save lives.”

Drunk-driving crashes claimed 12,429 lives in 2023, equating to one fatality every 42 minutes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
