Record Number Of ADU Approvals In Redwood City Last Year: Report

REDWOOD CITY, CA — The Redwood City council will receive the 2021 Annual Housing Progress Report at its meeting on Monday, and then the council will discuss its next draft housing element.
In 2021, Redwood City issued 320 building permits for units, and the highest ever number of permits for Accessory Dwelling Units at 81 due to changes to ADU regulations.
Over 1,000 housing units are being considered for entitlement through applications, according to the staff report.

This year has seen over 900 housing units in the process of receiving permits, according to staff. The pandemic slowed down some expected building permit activity, city staff noted.
