Redwood City To Honor Two-Year Mark Of Pandemic With Blue Lights

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Redwood City is turning blue on Friday in honor of the two-year anniversary since COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic.

Four buildings in downtown Redwood City will turn on their blue lights at dusk:

• Courthouse Square: 2200 Broadway
• Hall of Justice and Records: 400 County Center
• Kaiser Permanente: Marshall Court side
• Sequoia Hospital: 170 Alameda de las Pulgas

The idea was coordinated by Stacey Wagner, the director of public affairs for Kaiser Permanente’s Redwood City Medical Center, along with Redwood City Library Director Derek Wolfgram and Health and Sequoia Hospital Health and Wellness Director Marie Violet.

Wagner said to Patch that she asked the city to issue a proclamation and received support from Mayor Giselle Hale.

“Working throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has been a very challenging time for health care and frontline workers, and we wanted to find a way to let them know they are appreciated, and how grateful we are for their tireless efforts,” Wagner said. “I’m hopeful that residents and businesses in Redwood City and beyond will show their support by turning on blue lights and/or wearing blue on March 11.”
