Giselle Hale, who has been on the Redwood City council since 2018, announced her candidacy Tuesday for the open seat.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Redwood City Mayor Giselle Hale is running for the Peninsula state Assembly seat, she announced Tuesday morning.
Hale joins the race for the new Assembly District 21 seat, which was redrawn as part of the redistricting process and includes the region from Belmont up to South San Francisco along the Peninsula. The seat is open as Assemblymember Kevin Mullin (D-South San Francisco) is running to fill the retiring Jackie Speier’s seat in Congress.
Hale joins San Mateo Councilmember Diane Papan and South San Francisco James Coleman in announcing their intention to run for the seat.

I’m a mom, advocate and the Mayor of Redwood City. I’m running for CA Assembly in #AD21 because with the issues we face, we need leaders who know that actions speak louder than words. As your Assemblymember, I will get the job done. https://t.co/moT36Jb9cC pic.twitter.com/IODEpdMiZI
