Redwood City Woman Arrested After Police Chase To Santa Cruz County

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A Redwood City woman accused of crashing into a car in Half Moon Bay, robbing its driver and fleeing from police was arrested Wednesday after a chase that led deputies to Santa Cruz County, according to authorities.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said the incident began around 7:15 p.m. when multiple 911 callers reported a reckless driver near Highway 1 and Miramontes Point Road. Investigators determined the driver was responsible for a hit-and-run, and the victim followed the vehicle until the woman pulled over.

The resulting confrontation ended with the woman taking the victim's belongings by force and fleeing the scene, officials said. Deputies saturated the area and spotted the driver heading south on Highway 1. Investigators said the woman refused to pull over, beginning a highway pursuit, and deputies called in air support from Air 1.

Deputies followed the vehicle to Santa Cruz County, where the California Highway Patrol took over the chase and successfully deployed spike strips.

The sheriff's office identified the suspect as Heidi B. Buttery, 42, of Redwood City. She was arrested and booked into the Maguire Correction Facility on suspicion of robbery, hit-and-run and evading an officer.
