SAN MATEO, CA — Drivers who get a traffic citation in San Mateo County can now resolve their tickets online, including requesting a lower amount without the need to wait in a courtroom. As of Monday, people with infractions can look up their records using the "MyCitations" online portal.

The tool allows users to view all their tickets, pay them, request payment plans or more time to pay, and ask the court to lower the amount owed — all from home and without paperwork.

"This new option saves both time and resources, and allows the public to make requests without the need to appear in court," officials wrote Monday. "Prior to implementation of this tool, requesting an ability to pay determination was a paper process."
