SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County Parks are inviting community members to get out and enjoy the summer sunshine this weekend while helping to restore habitat conditions at Pillar Point Bluff.

Volunteers will help park stewards remove invasive plants on the picturesque bluff, allowing native plants and animals to thrive. Pre-registration is available for individuals, families and groups. Participants under 18 will need their parents to register them, and younger volunteers under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • We will be walking about 1/4 mile up s well-maintained, gently sloped trail to our worksite, where we will use hand tools to remove invasive plants. Our work will involve bending and kneeling.
  • Tools, gloves, and foam kneeling pads will be provided.
  • We ask that you wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing you don't mind getting dirty for your protection and comfort. Sunscreen, snacks, hats, and layers are also great to have on hand in case the weather gets warm or cold-- weather conditions can change quickly on the coast! If weather conditions are deemed too extreme, this event may be canceled and we will reach out to participants by email.
  • Please bring a personal water bottle for each member of your group. There will be port-a-potties at the parking lot, but there is no potable water available at or worksite.
