Transient Arrested, Accused Of Commercial Burglary

The 45-year-old man is being accused of a few break-ins involving smashed windows of businesses in the west hills Peninsula hamlet.

WOODSIDE, CA — A transient male was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of commercial burglary after deputies responded to a few break-ins through smashed windows in this west hills hamlett, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department reported.

Justin Huff, 45, is accused of burglary, evading arrest as well as possession of a stolen vehicle and property.

Upon deputies arrival to the Woodside Elementary School at 3159 Woodside Road at 6:03 a.m., they located a smashed classroom window and several school laptop computers on a bench outside the classroom. Deputies also located a van parked in the rear parking lot of the school, which was later determined to be an unreported stolen vehicle out Millbrae. Within the van, the authorities located a backpack containing several items, including a San Mateo County Jail wrist band belonging to the suspect.

The sheriff’s office put out an SMC Alert to the Woodside and Portola Valley area with the suspect's information. After an extensive search of the area that lasted for several hours, it was discovered that Huff attempted to break into the Woodside Little Store through a smashed window.

His efforts to gain entry into the store failed. A short time later, a resident of Woodside spotted the suspect on Kings Mountain Road and called county communications. Deputies’ arrived on scene, located the suspect and took him into custody. The suspect was booked into San Mateo County Jail.
