Campers Emerge From The Woods

Summer camp ended for students on Friday with a ceremony in Woodside, California.

Kids who participated in the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office STAR Camp attended the camp closing ceremony at the Sheriff's Office Mounted Patrol Grounds, which is on Kings Mountain Road.

Throughout the week-long camp, the Sherriff’s office staff visited the camp grounds, so the campers could get used to interacting with law enforcement personnel in a positive way. 120 students in grades five through eight participated in this year’s camp, which is an annual event that has taken place since 1995.

“The idea behind the camp was to give the elementary school aged children of San Mateo County the opportunity to travel out to the YMCA Camp in Linda Mar for a an enjoyable and fun camp experience including traditional camp activities like hiking, swimming, archery and canoeing, while also offering information,” said Rebecca Rosenblatt, Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson.

The closing ceremonies featured a K9 and a mounted patrol demonstration.
