Through Home Runs for Hunger, 1st United commits to donate $50 to ACCFB for every home run the Oakland A’s hit during the regular season.

“Our members appreciate our involvement with the Food Bank and have taken advantage of the convenience of the food barrels in our branches,” commented Steve Stone, Chief Executive Officer at 1st United Credit Union. “In 2022, we collected 41 barrels with the help of our staff, members, and the community, and we hope to collect even more this year. It’s a great feeling to be able to extend our support of the Food Bank’s mission in this way.”

According to ACCFB, 1 in 4 Alameda County residents experience some level of food insecurity. Their operations have expanded dramatically to support the growing need resulting from the economic impact of the pandemic. By adding 1st United as a Food Drive host, they will have the ability to reach an even greater level of support.

“Alameda County Community Food Bank continues to see record demand for our services due to a number of factors, including inflation and the sunsetting of critical pandemic-relief benefits,” said Juan Francisco Orozco, Corporate and Foundation Relations Manager for Alameda County Community Food Bank, noting that the end of the CalFresh (food stamp) Emergency Allotment benefit will mean a loss of more than 3 million meals per month in Alameda County. “Longstanding partnerships like this impactful relationship we have with 1st United Credit Union are critical to raising awareness for the issue of hunger in our community and ensuring our operations are resourced to meet the profound need we face. We’re grateful for 1st United Credit Union’s support, as well as the participation of every donor to our food drives.”
