Canada Geese And Goslings: Photo Of The Week

OAKLAND, CA — This springtime photo of Lake Merritt shows a serene scene. "Danny Wertheimer took this nice shot of a Canadian Goose couple with their six newly hatched goslings and some 'friends' swimming near by," Francesca Austin explained in an email. "The sun had just come out when the parents encouraged their babies to try out the mild salty waters of the peaceful estuary. The island in the background is the favored nesting spot of Oakland’s official bird the Black Crowned Night Heron as well as dainty Snowy White Egrets."
