Former A's Broadcaster And Player Ray Fosse Dead At 74

Former MLB player and longtime Oakland Athletics broadcaster Ray Fosse is dead at age 74 after a long battle with cancer, according to MLB.

OAKLAND, CA -- Ray Fosse, the former professional baseball player who was also a television sports color commentator for the Oakland A's from 1986 to 2021 has died, according to a statement posted to his official website.

Fosse, 74, was an All-Star catcher and two-time World Series champion during his baseball career, which lasted from 1967 to 1979. His playing career included a stint with the A's from 1973 to 1975. He won two World Series with the A's in 1973 and 1974.

He stepped away from his broadcasting duties in early August, revealing at the time that he had been battling cancer for 16 years and was leaving the broadcast booth to focus on his treatment. His condition was not widely known prior to the announcement.

In a statement, A's owner John Fisher said that Fosse had made a significant impact on the franchise and that he "was one of the most gracious and generous people I have ever known. He made every member of the A's feel like one of his family."

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol, and his daughters, Nikki and Lindsey.
