OAK Airport Bracing For Heavy Traffic During July 4 Weekend
Oakland International Airport is projecting that high volumes of passengers will pass through its terminals during Independence Day weekend.

OAKLAND, CA -- After an exceptionally busy Memorial Day travel weekend, Oakland International Airport (OAK) once again projects that a high volume of passengers will pass through its terminals for the Independence Day holiday weekend.
As Independence Day falls on a Monday this year, OAK expects many travelers to take full advantage of the long weekend leading to a busy six-day travel period from Thursday, June 30 to Tuesday, July 5.
Based upon the number of scheduled airline seats and the holiday falling on Monday, passenger totals this weekend are likely to match those seen in 2019. OAK estimates that about 240,000 passengers could travel through OAK between Thursday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 5. Friday is expected to be the busiest travel day with the highest volume of seats on the schedule.

“We expect many travelers to take advantage of the long holiday weekend for Independence Day this year, and we anticipate nearly reaching the passenger traffic levels we saw in 2019 before the pandemic,” Port of Oakland Aviation Director Bryant Francis said.
“We ask that everyone keep in mind two things: first, follow your airline’s guidance regarding when to arrive at the airport – now that is generally two to three hours before departure,” Francis added.

Recently launched new flights to Philadelphia and San Diego on Spirit Airlines and Kailua-Kona on Hawaii island by Hawaiian Airlines are all net gains over the 2019 schedules and add to the number of scheduled seats this year.
