SANTA ROSA, CA — A two-alarm fire broke out at an apartment complex in Santa Rosa on Monday night, sending a resident to the hospital and leaving a unit with major damage.

The Santa Rosa Fire Department said that around 10:15 p.m., dispatchers received multiple calls reporting a structure fire at 850 Russell Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames coming from an end unit at the Del Nido apartment complex.

Crews began to contain the flames aggressively, while other firefighters searched adjacent apartment units. In one unit, crews found residents still inside and helped them get out, the fire department said.

According to the fire department, the blaze was confined to the apartment where it started and was under control within 30 minutes. That unit had significant structural damage and its contents were declared a total loss.

While the investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing, fire officials say it appears to be accidental.
