Preliminary information indicated the man took his own life, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said.
ROHNERT PARK, CA — A man found dead early Tuesday in unincorporated Sonoma County near the Rohnert Park city limits was identified as 50-year-old Gabriel Jacob Gabaldon, a spokesperson for the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner's Office said.
Deputies were dispatched at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Roberts Lake Road where Gabaldon, a transient, was dead in a tent near the Santa Rosa/Rohnert Park city limits, sheriff's Spokesperson Rob Dillion told Patch in an email.
"The Sheriff's Office sends our heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Gabaldon in this difficult time," Dillion said.

Following an investigation by deputies and detectives, preliminary information suggested Gabaldon's death was not a homicide; it appeared he died of self-inflicted wounds, according to the sheriff's office.
"While it is not typical to release information on death investigations for apparent suicides, social media rumors claimed this was a homicide before detectives were able to investigate and determine what had happened," Dillion said.
