Two men suspected of breaking in and ransacking a Santa Rosa middle school are in custody: Police

SANTA ROSA, CA — Two men suspected of breaking in and ransacking a Santa Rosa middle school have been arrested, police said Tuesday.

Police responded to a burglary at Santa Rosa Middle School on E Street around 10:30 a.m. Monday, after a basketball coach reported it.

During a walk-through, staff and officers found damage to the gym, administrative offices, classrooms, the library, and storage rooms, police said. They found interior doors that had been pried or kicked open, as well as ransacked offices and shattered windows, damaged wrestling mats, and copper piping stripped from an electronic control board. Several areas were also littered with trash, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

Police said the burglars likely disabled surveillance cameras, which were damaged — but not before recording images of two men inside.

An officer recognized the suspects, who were arrested and charged with commercial burglary, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, theft with two or more prior convictions, and violation of probation.
