Hahn Elementary Luring Incident Was A Hoax

Wednesday morning, the boy's parents got in touch with officers to say the boy made up the story, public safety officials said.

ROHNERT PARK - Public safety officers said Wednesday that a report of a man trying to lure a 9-year-old student into a pickup truck Monday morning at a Rohnert Park elementary school is false.

The boy had reported that a man in a white truck pulled into a parking lot at Marguerite Hahn Elementary School at 825 Hudis St. between 8 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. and asked the boy whether he wanted to see the man's car.

The boy said he refused and then told school officials.

He said he saw a man in a white truck but that the man did not try to lure him into the truck, public safety officials said.

The boy's mother told officers that she and the boy had watched a show recently where a child reported a similar incident and a fire truck came to the school, according to public safety officials.

No one will be arrested in the incident but officers reprimanded the child for making the false report.

The boy also lied about going on campus to get a drink of water before school opened Monday to cover up why he was there early, public safety officials said.

Department officials want to remind people that making false reports can cause unnecessary fear among residents, expend public safety resources and can lead to criminal prosecution.
