Driver Saved From Flooded Roadway In Sonoma County: Police

The driver had to climb onto the roof of their car to escape the rising waters, police said.

SANTA ROSA, CA β€” The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Marin Unit saved a driver from a flooding roadway Monday morning in Santa Rosa.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Marin Unit made its first flood rescue of the year after responding to a stranded motorist who drove into floodwaters near Slusser Road and River Road Monday morning in Santa Rosa.

The driver had climbed onto the roof of their car to stay out of the rising water, police said.

The Marine Unit reached the driver and remained on scene while additional resources responded.

The driver was safely evacuated and transferred to Sonoma County Fire District personnel.

"Floodwaters can rise quickly and road conditions may be deceptive. Never drive through standing or moving water. If you encounter a flooded roadway, Turn Around, Don’t Drown," police said.
