Man Arrested for Possession of Cocaine, Assault on Police

A Rohnert Park man was arrested after he allegedly attacked a police officer who arrived at his mobile home with an arrest warrant Saturday evening, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

Officer Casey Thompson arrived at 42 Rancho Verde Circle in the Rancho Verde Mobile Home Park around 6:10 p.m. to look for Jose DeJesus Gonzalez Jr., 33, who was wanted for violating his probation, police said.

When Thompson drove by the home, he saw a pizza delivery person on the porch and saw Gonzalez peer out the front door at him.

Thompson requested assistance because Gonzalez, who is on probation for a felony count of resisting or obstructing an officer, has a history of violence toward law enforcement officers, according to police.

Thompson asked Gonzalez to exit his home to speak with him, and
Gonzalez came to the street. When Thompson told Gonzalez he had a warrant for his arrest and attempted to take him into custody, Gonzalez allegedly balled his fists and came toward the officer, police said.

After requesting emergency assistance, Thompson used a stun gun on
Gonzalez. When the stun gun's barbs struck Gonzalez, he stopped and fell to the ground, according to police.

Thompson told Gonzalez to stay on the ground, but police said Gonzalez pulled the barbs out of his skin and starting running toward Thompson, swinging his fists.

Thompson tried to fight off Gonzalez and used his stun gun a second time, according to police. The stun gun was ineffective, and Thompson continued to fight off Gonzalez while neighbors called 911, police said.

When other officers arrived, Gonzalez allegedly ran at Thompson again swinging his fists, authorities said. Officer Brandon Davidge used his stun gun on Gonzalez, and the shock stopped Gonzalez and caused him to fall to the ground.

Thompson, Davidge and another officer jumped on Gonzalez while he was on the ground. Although he allegedly resisted, the officers were able to handcuff him, police said.

When officers searched Gonzalez's home, they found more than an ounce of cocaine and other evidence of drug sales, police said.

Officers also seized numerous weapons including swords, throwing knives and a crossbow. According to the terms of his probation, Gonzalez is not permitted to possess any weapons, according to police.

Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of felony resisting an officer, misdemeanor battery on a peace officer, possession for sale of cocaine, and felony violation of probation, authorities said.

Thompson was not hurt in the attack, and Gonzalez was treated for
minor injuries before he was medically cleared and taken to jail.
