Police Investigate 'Hoax Threat' To Maria Carrillo High School

The school was placed on lockdown while officers searched the school and confirmed it was a hoax, Santa Rosa police said.

SANTA ROSA, CA โ€” Students are Maria Carrillo High School were on lockdown Wednesday while police investigated a shooting threat.

The Santa Rosa Police Department received a call at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday about an active shooter at the school, SRPD Sgt. Christopher Mahurin said.

"All available resources responded to the school and confirmed it was a hoax," Mahurin said. "The school was placed on lockdown while officers searched the school. All students and staff were safe, and there was no actual threat."

Police said they will work to find the person responsible for reporting the threat and will hold that person accountable.

"Students deserve to feel safe on a school campus and we are committed to preserving that right," Mahurin said.

Police said more information will be provided if and when an arrest occurs.

A similar hoax was reported Wednesday at St. Helena High School in nearby Napa County.
