Santa Rosa Girl, 16, Identified In Fatal Crash Off U.S. 101

The teen who attended Santa Rosa High School died early Saturday when the car she was riding in went off U.S. Highway 101 near Burt Street.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A Santa Rosa teen was identified by the Sonoma County Sheriff Coroner's Office as the victim in a fiery fatal crash early Saturday in South Santa Rosa.

Yaquelin Garcia Magdaleno, 16, was riding in a Toyota Camry northbound on U.S. Highway 101 when the car went off the freeway and overturned in a retail parking lot at Burt Street and Santa Rosa Avenue, authorities said.

Emergency personnel with the California Highway Patrol and Santa Rosa Fire Department found the car on its roof, fully engulfed in flames, CHP Officer David deRutte said.

Yaquelin was alone in the car and became trapped inside, deRutte said.

CHP's preliminary investigation indicated that for reasons still under investigation, the Camry drifted to the right and onto the shoulder where it struck a chain-link fence and two trees, then overturned and came to rest in the parking lot, deRutte said.
