Walk and Roll To School Day at Evergreen

Notes from Amy Jolly, the Safe Rotes to School director for Rohnert Park.

Yesterday was Walk and Roll to School day at School. Evergreen does a monthly Walk and Roll Day in addition to a weekly walkers program.

About half the students at the school participate, but yesterday there was an added bonus for students: kids who gathered for a walking school bus at were greeted at the hot chocolate, thanks to the owner. In addition, Odwalla donated granola bars to every student who walked or rolled.

Great Job Evergreen! This morning I ran into a group of five students Greg Helgrin, Zach Adragna, Ryan Holt, Jacob Whitehorse and Naomi Whitehorse on the creek path behind school.  They all had something good to say about walking to school.

Another mom, Carla Brown, led a bike train of four children.

“We carpool three days a week but now with the timing we might start doing this [biking],” Brown said.

It was great to see so many students out enjoying the morning air, laughing and chatting on their way to school. Be sure to check out the pictures of Evergreen’s walk and rollers and be on the lookout for more Safe Routes to School Events.
