Men Get Prison Time for 2010 Gang Shooting that Killed Former Rosemont Mom

Two of the people who pleaded guilty to taking part in a shooting that killed a former Rosemont woman as she shielded her 2-year-old son from gunfire were each sentenced to decades in prison Thursday.

The Sacramento Bee reports that Dominique Marcell Lott, 29, and Charles Barksdale, 32, pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in the December 2010 gang shooting in south Sacramento that killed Monique Nelson.

Lott and Barksdale each received the maximum sentence of 21 years for manslaughter charges, and each had 10 years added on to their sentences for gun possession and gang charges, the Bee reported.

Still to come is a murder trial for the four remaining defendants. Reports the Bee:

The family's ordeal isn't over. A murder trial is still pending for the other four defendants: Lonnie Orlando Mitchell Jr., 26; Louis James Mitchell, 21; James Leo Carney III, 33; and Larry Dean Jones Jr., 31. Carney is accused of firing the shot, aimed at the Mitchells, that killed Nelson.
