Sacramento Halloween Guide 2013

It's that time of the year when witches, superheroes and angels partake in a little Halloween fun. We have pulled together some events, some local and some regional, that you might want to check out for some added Halloween fun. 

Safetyville USA's Annual Halloween Haunt, 3909 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento, Saturday, Oct. 19, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Come to the 22nd Annual Halloween Haunt at Safetyville USA! The best family carnival in Sacramento. Magic show, mazes and more! See Safety Bill, Sparky, McGruff and you other favorite characters. Wear your favorite costume and join them in our costume parade. Enjoy face painting, carnival games, and delicious food and drinks. Pumpkins also for sale starting in October and running through Halloween Haunt.

Monster Bash, Sacramento Children's Museum, 2701 Prospect Drive, Rancho Cordova, Oct. 19, 6-8 p.m.

Join us for a night of ghoulish fun at Sacramento Children's Museum's Monster Bash! Gear up for Halloween and wear your best costume and come play the night away at the Museum! We'll have a DJ, dancing, refreshments, photo opportunities, a 'haunted hallway,' and of course - Museum play! Tickets will go fast so make sure to get yours today!

Sacramento Horror Film Festival, Colonial Theater, 3522 Stockton Blvd., Oct. 11-13.

It's the 7th Annual Sacramento Horror Film Festival This event is for all the movie buffs who love to be horrified. The event features movies, live music, and live theatrical performances. Fore more information visit: sachorrorfilmfest.com

The Haunted Fort, Sutter Fort State Historic Park, Oct. 25-26

Looking for something ghoulishly unique to do this Halloween? For a spirited good time, check out the fourth annual "The Haunted Fort"! Back by popular demand, the historic site will offer special lantern-lit guided tours -- for two evenings only - that are based in fact but with a decidedly creepy twist. 

Sutter's Fort SHP was once a portal for weary pioneers and serves as the gateway to their restless spirits, who return to tell the tales of their lives and melancholy deaths at this special family-friendly event. Amid the glow of campfire, daring visitors will go on guided tours through the darkened rooms and hear unusual and intriguing tales of how some of California's early pioneers perished throughout history. Some even believe many of the rooms at the Fort are still haunted by the spirits of past inhabitants!

Mansion After Dark, Governor's Mansion State Historic Park, 1526 H St., Oct. 25-26

If you're looking for safe, spooky and fun alternatives to trick-or-treating this Halloween, consider visiting the Governor's Mansion State Historic Park (SHP) for "Mansion After Dark" self-guided tours!

Visitors will have the opportunity to see the Governor's Mansion SHP in a whole new light -- "lights out." Following in the tradition of many of the families of previous governors that lived in the Mansion, the volunteers at the Governor's Mansion SHP are using contemporary decorations to make the home ready for the Halloween event and for two special evenings, unique open-house style tours will feature tales of ghosts, bats, great pumpkins, coffin corners and Halloween adventures in the decorated darkened rooms of the Mansion. Storytellers will captivate visitors with tales of the season and fortune tellers will predict interesting futures. Additionally, children will have the opportunity to have their faces painted with Halloween-themed decorations.

Join Wind Youth Services as they hold their annual HalloWind Ghoulapalooza, benefitting the homeless and at-risk youth in the Sacramento area. Enjoy food, dancing, cocktails, a live auction and a costume contest in support of Wind's mission to serve the estimated 1,700 homeless youths on the streets of Sacramento.
