City Holds Internet Safety Presentations

Two free Internet safety talks – one geared toward adults and the other toward teenagers and their parents – will be held Dec. 12 in Roseville.

Two Internet safety presentations will help residents out with some of the online concerns that pop up during the holiday season.

During the talks, Rob Baquera, the city’s public safety coordinator, will tackle issues like how to be a savvy online shopper and how to avoid e-mail scams and ID theft, among other things.

Baquera said the goal of doing these two Internet safety talks is to provide tips for keeping families safe online.

“I hope they recognize some of the risk factors of being online and take proactive steps to not become a victim,” Baquera said in an e-mail.

The first talk, which takes place from 1-2 p.m. Dec. 12, is geared toward adults. In that hour-long session, Baquera said he will talk about scam and virus e-mails, online shopping safety, social networking and other tips. During the second session, from 4-5 p.m. Dec. 12, Baquera will tweak his talk toward teens and parents. He’ll discuss issues like shopping online, downloads, social networking and Internet monitoring programs, he said.
