Secret Santas Pay Walmart Layaway Bills

They’ve been called “Layaway Santas,” “Secret Santas” and “Layaway Angels,” but whatever their titles, these good Samaritans are stopping in at retailers across the country and paying customers’ remaining layaway balances. And it’s happened right here in Roseville.

At , an anonymous man came into the store Monday, Dec. 19 and paid the remaining layaway balances on 27 accounts, Kayla Whaling, a Walmart spokesperson said.

“We’ve been seeing this coast to coast,” Whaling said. “It’s in various parts of the country where strangers are coming in and paying people’s layaway accounts.”

CBS 13 reported that the “Secret Santa” came into the Pleasant Grove Boulevard location and paid more than $1,000.

According to a Walmart employee at the Walmart on Lead Hill Boulevard in Roseville, they’ve also seen “Secret Santas” stop in this season. However, the employee could not give specifics.

Secret Santas have also made surprise visits nearby. News 10 reported that a woman came into the Rocklin Kmart and paid $86.77 on a customer’s remaining layaway balance. The station also reported that Kmart in Placerville had a similar visit.

“It’s amazing. It’s so generous,” Whaling said.
